privacy policy

Last updated 28 October 2026

Faverly keeps your favorite movies, shows, books, music, podcasts, restaurants, hotels, and places, and lets you follow friends. It's made and operated by STUDIOKJ, LLC, the makers of Gatherby. We collect only what's needed to run Faverly, we don't show ads, and we don't sell your data.

What we collect

What other people see

With a public profile (the default), anyone on Faverly can find you and see what you save in the categories you share, with your name and photo, and your ratings and reviews. People who follow you also see what you've been doing lately. Popular counts how many people share each pick.

Some things stay with you: check-ins you don't post, your quotes, and the comments on your cards.

You can make your profile private in Settings → Privacy. Your lists are then hidden from everyone, people can find you only by your email address, and anyone following you stops following you, except people you've approved, who still see your profile.

Location, calendar, and Apple Watch

Location is used when you check in or look for places near you. Places around you come from Apple Maps, searched on your iPhone or Apple Watch, so your precise location goes to Apple for that search (see Apple's privacy policy), not to us. To suggest places others have checked in to, the app sends us only a rounded area about a kilometre across, which isn't stored with your account. When you check in, we keep the place you chose. Places you check in to help suggest places to others, without saying who checked in. We keep only the place (its name, kind and location), we suggest it only after several people have checked in there, and places you type in yourself aren't used. Arrival suggestions are optional and off unless you turn them on in Settings; they need location set to Always. Your iPhone notices when you've stopped somewhere and works out on the device whether it's a place you've been or one right there, then offers a check-in. Nothing is sent to us unless you check in.

Look Around: For a restaurant, hotel or place without a photo, Faverly may show Apple’s Look Around where available: your iPhone requests imagery from Apple Maps using the place’s coordinates or its name and address, without including your current location in that Look Around request, and the resulting image stays on your iPhone and is not sent to us.

Adding check-ins to your calendar is optional and off unless you turn it on. Faverly can only add events; it never reads your calendar, and your calendar is never sent to us.

The Apple Watch app signs in through your iPhone and checks in the same way the iPhone app does.

Books

Scanning a book's barcode and picking out a quote from a photo of a page both happen on your iPhone: only the ISBN, or the words you keep, are sent to us. A page photo is uploaded only if you choose to attach it to the quote. Your quotes are kept with your account and aren't shown to anyone else. If you import your Goodreads or StoryGraph history, we keep the books, ratings and read dates from the file as part of your lists; the file itself isn't kept. To fill in book details we look up the title or ISBN with Open Library.

Apple Music

The Music list can show the song playing in Apple Music on your iPhone, so you can save it. It asks for permission first, and reading what's playing stays on your iPhone. Nothing is sent to us unless you also turn on "Show what I'm listening to", which shares that song on your profile with the people who follow you.

Contacts

Finding friends from your contacts is optional and asks for permission first. When you use it, the app sends your contacts' email addresses to our server only to check which of them are on Faverly. They're not stored.

Affiliate links

Some links are affiliate links: "Find on Amazon" on movies, shows, books, and albums, "Find at Bookshop.org" on books, and Expedia links on hotels. A link opens in Safari (or the Amazon app) through our server, which adds our affiliate tag and passes on what you're looking for: the title, or the hotel's name. The store sees that search and your visit, as it would any other visitor's. We count these clicks by store, not by person. Like every request to our server, the link and your IP address are kept in our web server's logs for up to 14 days.

Purchases and bookings take place with those services under their own privacy policies. We do not receive your purchase, booking, or payment details.

Email and notifications

We send sign-in codes, replies to support requests, and notifications you can turn off, such as a new follower. We never send marketing to purchased lists.

Service providers

We don't sell personal information. We use a small number of service providers who process data only to run Faverly for us, under obligations to protect it:

How we protect it

All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS. Data is stored on encrypted infrastructure on Amazon Web Services, with encrypted backups. Internal access is limited to what's needed to run and support Faverly.

Your choices and deletion

Make your profile private, unfollow or block anyone, and turn notifications off at any time. Delete your account in the app, under Settings → Delete account: that permanently deletes your account, lists, ratings, reviews, photos, and follows, and everything tied to them, such as invitations you sent and records of how you used the app. Copies in our encrypted backups are deleted as those backups expire. You can also email support@faverly.app and we'll do it for you.

Children

Faverly isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
